Modern welfare in the United Kingdom is a universal (dis)credit to Beveridge. Is it time for a basic income?

In this article, we reflect upon what we consider to be the potential shortcomings of the current welfare system in the United Kingdom as a move away from its origin, arguing that the United Kingdom is now primed for UBI to be considered a fair and legitimate way to provide social security.

Could a Universal Basic Income reduce food insecurity and assist with the transition to a sustainable food system?

In this policy brief, we look at the UK food system, which is failing, and also consider how the current economic situation impacts the most vulnerable the hardest. We present the case for a UBI, and consider whether it could assist with the transition to a more sustainable food system.​

Sowing the seeds of stability: the case for a basic income for farmers, farmworkers and food producers in the UK

In this report, Basic Income 4 Farmers and partners draw on farmers and growers lived experience sand research on basic income and the UK farming sector. It outlines the current challenges in UK farming, how a basic income could uniquely meet the needs of farmers and perhaps most importantly, lays out the key areas and big questions the work to date has highlighted that should form the basis of further work.
