Meet the UBI Lab Food Team
UBI Lab Food is run by its members.
Here are some of the people who play an active role in organising the work of the Lab.
We are always looking for new members. If you would like to join, get in touch.
Remco Peters: Co-chair
Remco is a research associate at The University of Bristol. He's worked internationally tackling nutrition and other health issues in both academia and the humanitarian sector. He is convinced systemic changes are required to halt the ever-increasing rates of nutrition and other chronic health issues globally. Remco believes UBI has an important role to play in this. He is particularly interested in what a UBI can do to help transform food systems equitably.
Francis Poitier: Co-chair
Francis is an interdisciplinary teacher and researcher from the University of Leeds. His work focuses on complex health issues using an intersectional and systems lens with experience working in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and Caribbean island states. Francis is interested in the role of UBI as part of wider sociocultural and political factors impacting nutritional health outcomes.
Gemma Bridge: Co-chair
Gemma is a public health and sustainability researcher, currently working at The University of Leeds and York St John University. She is also the Director of Bridge Research, a company supporting organisations with academic writing, qualitative research and funding application. Gemma's interest in UBI relates to its potential to support both people and planet, reducing poverty and promoting sustainable actions across the food system.
Dave Beck: Co-chair
Dave Beck is an academic and a lecturer of Social Policy at the University of Salford with research and teaching interests in (food) poverty and Social Security. Dave is interested in understanding how a UBI ends the need for food banks. Dave is also a freelance consultant working across food poverty organisations
Ben Pearson: Co-chair
Ben is a passionate working-class activist and campaigner from Blackburn, currently based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.
